Varicella vaccine

Varicella or better known as chicken pox is an infectious disease caused by a virus, characterized by red spots, which can cause damage and discomfort on the skin.

So far, chicken pox is considered a mild disease but complications can occur both in children and adults. Complications include:

■ additional infections of the skin damage and scarring (which can cause low self-esteem if it is located on the face)
■ Pneumonia, encephalitis, requiring hospitalization at the hospital.
■ The death in some cases.
There are three different ways people can chicken pox:

■ Transmission from person to person by sneezing or coughing
■ Direct contact with infected patients, where the liquid bubbles very contagious
■ Transmission through the placenta from an infected mother to fetus
Symptoms of chicken pox begins 14-16 days after contact with infected patients. Headache, fever, abdominal pain and malaise usually precede the occurrence of red spots (1-2 days). Red spots arise from the head, face or upper body section and then spread throughout the body.

Immunization against chickenpox and to protect our families from this disease. Most of the chickenpox vaccine was efficient and provide longer protection. The vaccine is given from the age of 12 months and has been safe and well tolerated.
